Overview
A trailblazing new music group from France, Ensemble Zellig is a collaboration of talented musicians, each an accomplished soloist commanding a variety of styles and points of view. These gifted musicians adapt, chameleon-like, to their environment, and bring innovative works to the stage. Founded by composers Hersant and Gualtiero Dazzi along with performers Etienne Lamaison and Silvia Lenzi (appearing at this concert), the group travels widely through musical time and is as likely to visit Haydn's music as they are Stockhausen's. In its Cal Performances debut, Ensemble Zellig performs remarkable new music, including a world premiere by UC Berkeley composer/faculty member Edmund Campion.
Program: Works by Edmund Campion, Philippe Leroux, Don Freund, Hersant, and Gerald Shapiro
