Overview
Following his acclaimed recital with Joshua Bell last season, American pianist Jeremy Denk makes his Berkeley solo recital debut in an unusually broad program that provides a fine example of his adventurous approach. György Ligeti's Etudes are milestones of contemporary music and among the most inventive works recently composed for the piano. Each of these remarkable miniatures—some fiendishly complicated, some deceptively simple—explores a different sound world, but it all adds up to a powerful musical statement. The program also includes Bach's beloved Goldberg Variations. Describing Denk's interpretation of these timeless masterworks, the New York Times called it "magical...a performance to treasure."
Program: Etudes (Books 1 and 2) · Bach: Goldberg Variations
