Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski has established himself as one of the most remarkable young musicians to have emerged in recent years. Possessed of dazzling technique, he can also be powerfully moving in lyrical moments. His powerhouse program features Liszt's virtuosic Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and Schubert's epic Wanderer Fantasy, the composer's most technically demanding composition for the instrument. "Resurrection and Seduction from Schubert to Liszt"

Join us for a lively pre-concert talk given by students of Pianism 2013 course taught by Nicholas Mathew and James Davies, who have been collaborating this spring in an upper-level seminar for Cal's music majors. Pianism 2013 will consider Liszt's role in the reinvigoration and canonization of Schubert's music, exploring the Wanderer Fantasy, shifting attitudes towards performance, the rise of the public piano recital, and more.
