UC Berkeley professor
and distinguished composer Jorge Liderman's works have been performed
by many of the world's leading ensembles, including the London Sinfonietta,
the Tanglewood Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Arditti
Quartet, and Boston's Musica Viva. Praised for the "sophistication
and primal energy" (The
New York Times) of his music,
Liderman has created a musical setting for the celebrated recent
translation by Chana Bloch and Ariel Bloch of The
Song of Songs, one of the greatest
love poems of all time. Transporting audiences to the lush and sensual
Eden of the original Hebrew text, the piece features performances
by up-and-coming New York-based soprano Elissa Johnston and tenor
Charles Blandy, accompanied by the UC Berkeley Chamber Chorus and
three instrumental ensembles, including the San Francisco Contemporary
Music Players.
