The Petersen Quartet
has collected an impressive array of international performing and
recording awards since its formation in 1979. Although its home remains
in Berlin (where it was once the resident quartet of East Berlin Radio),
the Petersen has acquired a certain international touch, with English
violinist Daniel Bell and Czech cellist Jonas Krejci joining original
members Conrad Muck and Friedemann Weigle in 1999. With immaculate
technique, perfect intonation, and enormous dynamic range, the young
members of this ensemble play as though they share a single soul.
Program: Beethoven/Quartet
in D major, Op. 18, No. 3; Shostakovich/Quartet No. 14 in F-sharp
major, Op. 142; Bartók/Quartet No. 1
