Cal Performances'
Chamber Music Series has been very much in demand over the last
several years, and a good reason for that success is undoubtedly
repeat performances by the superb Takács Quartet. Mesmerizing audiences
in sold-out appearances here in 1999 and 2000, the Takács plays
chamber music as it is supposed to be played with warmth,
passion, and an Old World sweetness seldom heard in this country.
The two Hungarians and two Brits of the Quartet return with special
guest Natasha Brofsky to perform Schubert's great (and rarely played)
String Quintet in C major.
Program: Beethoven/String
Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 18, No. 6; Ravel/String Quartet; Schubert/Quintet
in C major, D 956
