As always, Cal
Performances is committed to bringing you events that transcend
traditional boundaries, and this unique combination of opera, contemporary
dance, and theater eloquently expresses that dedication. Here in
its American premiere, La
Guerra d'Amore is the creative
brainchild of celebrated German choreographer Joachim Schlömer,
who has worked with such dance greats as Mark Morris, Pina Bausch,
and Mikhail Baryshnikov, and award-winning Baroque master René Jacobs,
one of the most important conductors in the repertoire of the 17th
and 18th centuries. Set within the sublime milieu of a contemporary
Venetian public square, the work revolves around 17th-century Monteverdi
madrigals that translate the universal language of love into music.
Co-produced by: Innsbrucker
Festwochen der Alten Musik, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, and Cal
Performances.
