In the company's "most raw, physical, and sexy production to date," according to Bourne, 19th-century Spain has been relocated to mid-20th-century America, where a charismatic stranger named Luca drifts into a dusty small town to wreak havoc in the lives of a greasy garage owner, his lusty wife, and a shy young mechanic with one foot in the closet. Adding a dash of Hollywood film noir and a pinch of Greek tragedy to Bizet's music and Mérrimée's original story of cuckoldry, murder, and treachery, Bourne has created a combustible edge-of-your-seat thriller loaded with theatrical flair and explosive dancing.
