Nigerian singer/bandleader King Sunny Ade has spent five decades "laying down one of the finest sub-Saharan grooves on the planet," says Billboard magazine. A champion of musicians' rights and anti-piracy efforts, Ade has dedicated his life and music to the people of Nigeria. With more than 100 recordings to his credit (including the Grammy-nominated Odu), Ade is the acknowledged master of juju — a timeless, convivial blend of traditional Yoruba music and Western pop. Fueled by an orchestra of over 12 musicians and dancers, playing everything from electric guitars and synthesizers to such indigenous instruments as talking drums, King Sunny Ade and his African Beats create music that washes over the soul in a spirit of joyful celebration.
