"A first-rate
ensemble of passionate temperament," says the San Francisco
Chronicle of Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the only string chamber
ensemble in the world made up exclusively of Latin American musicians.
Dedicated to stretching the boundaries of the classical repertory
by discovering and performing the works of Latin and South American
composers, brothers Saul and Aron (violins), and Alvaro Bitrán
(cello), and colleague Javier Montiel (viola) of this soulful and
adventurous ensemble have already recorded most of the existing string
quartets by Latin American composers, including their award-winning
first digital recording of quartets by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Alberto
Ginastera, and Silvestre Revueltas. The ensemble's program will feature
the world premiere of a newly composed piano quintet by Berkeley faculty
member Jorge Liderman, whose 2002 Song of Songs world premiere
at Cal Performances received a rave review by the San Francisco
Chronicle.
