A
sense of humor and intense, explosive energy rarely seen in Latin
American contemporary dance are the hallmarks of this innovative,
young Argentinean company. Grupo Krapp, created in 1995, works the
natural intersection between dance and theater, blending them into
a new discipline. Following acclaimed performances at prestigious
festivals in Argentina and Uruguay, the ensemble of dancers, musicians
and actors makes its North American debut at Cal Performances with
No Me Besabas? (Weren't you kissing me? ), set to musical
fragments from Rosamel Araya, Compay Segundo and the U.K. based group
Fun-da-men-tal. The second piece on the program, Río Seco
(Dry River), receives its inspiration from "images
of family vacations in the mountainous area rivers" of the Argentinean
pampas (countryside).
