Suzuki in 1990 with the aim of introducing Japanese audiences to period-instrument
performances, the Bach Collegium Japan has received widespread international
acclaim for its meticulous interpretations of baroque-era music and
for its award-winning recording cycle of the Bach Cantatas in particular.
In their Bay Area debut, Suzuki and his ensemble, joined by special
guest soloists, will perform Bach's St. Matthew Passion, considered
by many to be Bach's greatest work. Unusually sensitive to the visionary
eloquence of Bach's musical language, Bach Collegium Japan "sings
and plays to the highest possible standards and with utter stylistic
conviction," says BBC Music Magazine.
