* Cal Performances regrets to announce the cancellation of the performance by gambist Jordi Savall and Barcelona-based ensemble Hespèrion XXI, scheduled for Sunday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. in First Congregational Church. Due to concerns regarding travel at this time, Savall and the members of Hespèrion XXI have cancelled their United States performance dates.

"The capacity audience sat in rapt attention, riveted by the slightest sound as these Barcelona-based artists delved into a fabulous musical past, leaping centuries with a single strum of the psaltery," said the San Francisco Chronicle of Hesperion XXI's sold-out 2001 recital at Cal Performances. One of the world's leading interpreters of early music, virtuoso viola da gambist Jordi Savall and his peerless ensemble, including soprano Montserrat Figueras, Arianna Savall, Rolf Lislevand, Pedro Estevan, and Adela Gonzales Campa, return with a program of folias and pasacalles by Ortiz, Marín, Sanz, de Ribayaz, and Hidalgo.
