One of today's most sought-after young singers, Austrian mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager returns to Cal Performances following three previous critically acclaimed recitals. A regular at the Vienna State Opera, she made her Metropolitan Opera (La Clemenza di Tito) and San Francisco Opera (Le Nozze di Figaro) debuts in 1998, and has since displayed her wonderfully versatile and velvety voice to rapt audiences around the world. She "personifies cultivated charm and elegant musicianship," says the San Francisco Chronicle. "Her voice is pure gold." Kirchschlager performs with British sensation Simon Keenlyside, noted for the versatility of his finely focused baritone and his highly charged performances. Kirchschlager and Keenlyside are accompanied by preeminent pianist Graham Johnson, whose major recording of the entire catalogue of Schubert lieder (for Hyperion) has attracted international critical acclaim.
