Glamorous and stylish
Finnish lyric soprano Karita Mattila is often mentioned in the same
breath as such prima donnas as Cecilia Bartoli and Renee Fleming.
She is renowned for "her vocal artistry above all a sound
both weighty and beautifully lyrical, combined with an endlessly probing
musical intelligence that has ignited the fascination of the
musical world," says the San Francisco Chronicle. Now
in the thrilling prime of her career, she makes her Cal Performances
debut after receiving brilliant reviews for her performance in the
title role in SF Opera's Fall 2002 production of Kat'a Kabanova.
