"Peru
might have found the heir to Pavarotti," says The New York
Observer of this award-winning tenor, whose sumptuous voice is
coupled with a highly charismatic stage presence. At age 30, Flórez
has already caused a sensation at such venerable opera houses and
recital venues as Covent Garden, La Scala, and Wigmore Hall, and his
recent Metropolitan Opera debut in The Barber of Seville garnered
a lengthy and boisterous ovation. Currently one of the opera world's
most in-demand singers for the bel canto works of Rossini,
Bellini, and Donizetti, he released his first solo recording of Rossini
arias last year to wide critical acclaim. He returns to Cal Performances
following his 2003 Bay Area recital debut.
