Legendary dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey made an indelible impact on the way people view dance, exemplified by his masterpiece Revelations, the sublime ballet tracing man's spiritual journey to joyful salvation that is a perennial favorite. From its now-fabled first performance in 1958, the extraordinary troupe that bears his name has faithfully honored Ailey's unique and powerful vision and today, under the inspired direction of Judith Jamison, continues to perform with the same spirituality and passionate sense of adventure on which the company was founded. And Cal Performances continues to afford more opportunities than anywhere outside of the company's New York home to experience the superb Ailey dancers' distinctive charisma and dynamic energy.
