Series A Since its
1988 premiere in Belgium and its West Coast premiere at Cal Performances in 1994,
Mark Morris' "gloriously inventive ode to life on earth" (The New
York Times) has been inspiring rapturous superlatives around the world from
critics and audiences alike. Considered by many to be one of the 20th century's
finest achievements in dance, this tour-de-force work is by turns ravishingly
beautiful, enchantingly witty, and deeply moving. A perfect, joyful marriage of
music and movement, L'Allegro il Penseroso ed il Moderato encompasses the
work and inspiration of four artists over a span of 350 years: the thoughtful
poems of John Milton, the glorious music of George Frideric Handel, the glowing
watercolors of William Blake, and of course, the masterful choreography of one
of the most acclaimed artists of our time. These
performances are supported, in part, by Linda Rawlings Patron
