Subscription Series: Choose-Your-Own Subscription "Oh, if Bach had
had the Netherlands Bach Society!" says preeminent Dutch conductor Gustav
Leonhardt, who among other such top-rate conductors as Sir Roger Norrington, René
Jacobs, and Paul van Nevel, performs regularly with the renowned Amsterdam-based
specialists of repertoire focusing primarily on Bach, his contemporaries, and
predecessors. The vocal and instrumental ensemble appears regularly at festivals
throughout Europe and beyond and has earned a reputation for performing with a
choral passion and transcendent grace that the 17th- and 18th-century masters
would surely have appreciated. Led by Dutch choral conductor Jos van Veldhoven,
the ensemble's director since 1983, The Netherlands Bach society is joined for
their first North American tour by charismatic recorder virtuoso Marion Verbruggen
in a program featuring works by Johann Schelle, Johann Kuhnau, Dietrich Buxtehude,
and Johann and Johann Sebastian Bach, including the Brandenburg Concerto No. 4.
