In
celebration of the 100th anniversary of UC Berkeley's magnificent Greek Theatre,
we invite you to enjoy classical drama the way it was originally meant to be experienced
as the National Theater of Greece performs Euripides' powerful story of betrayal
and wild justice in the beautiful outdoor setting of this unique world class venue.
Founded by King George I in 1900 and today under the direction of one of Greece's
leading actors, Nikos Kourkoulos, the National Theater of Greece is devoted to
the revival of ancient Greek drama (tragedy) and stages productions on a regular
basis in front of tens of thousands at the Ancient Theatre of Epidauros and Herod
Atticus Odeon in Greece, and thousands each year at New York's City Center Stage.
True to the eternal messages in Euripides' powerful 2500-year old masterpiece,
this modern production is performed in Greek (with English supertitles) and features
acclaimed Greek actress Tamilla Kulieva in the title role. with
the cooperation of the Consul General of Greece in San Francisco, Dimitrios Touloupas
