Consistently ranked as one of the world's foremost chamber groups, the extraordinary Takács Quartet's annual sold-out visits have become highlights of the Bay Area chamber music calendar. One of the few ensembles capable of expressing the full range of passions in a great composer's oeuvre, the Takács received high honors for its 1998 recording of Béla Bartók's six string quartets, and now the group is tackling the entire Beethoven cycle with the same verve and precision. As the start of a cycle to be completed in the 2005/06 season, these two all-Beethoven concerts feature selections from the ensemble's recordings of the early and middle quartets, the latter of which won 2002 Gramophone and Grammy awards.
