In 1958, legendary choreographer Alvin Ailey set out to build a company dedicated to the preservation of unique black cultural expression and the enrichment of the American modern dance heritage. Growing rapidly from a small, mostly black ensemble
to the world-renowned multi-racial dance company it is today, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has indeed fulfilled Ailey's dream to touch everyone's spirit through dance, reaching the hearts and minds of an estimated 19 million people around the world. Today, director Judith Jamison continues the legacy dance as a medium for honoring the past, celebrating the present, and fearlessly reaching into the future. The company returns for its annual appearance with new repertory and Ailey's enduring masterpiece Revelations.
