Beloved as Canada's premier ballet company since its founding in 1951, and a vital force on the world dance scene for more than 30 years ever since Rudolf Nureyev staged his spectacular Sleeping Beauty especially for the troupe in 1972 the National Ballet of Canada has consistently enchanted audiences with its dancers' trademark combination of razor-sharp technique and impeccable grace. Under the leadership of visionary choreographer James Kudelka since 1996, the company has entered a new era of glory, showcasing its illustrious reputation for performing story-length ballets to the highest standards of classical excellence, while energizing its repertoire with new, passionately engaging work. As part of its program, the ensemble performs Kudelka's dazzling ballet The Four Seasons, an expressive exploration of the ephemeral seasons of a man's life, set to Vivaldi's celebrated score. Awash in romance, and vibrantly theatrical, "The Four Seasons is a masterpiece of our time...only [Kudelka] can infuse passion into virtuosity in this way," raves The New York Times.
