Kids and parents have found one thing they can definitely agree on: Dan Zanes & Friends are a musical hit for all ages, and their return to Cal Performances is reason to celebrate. After a thriving rock 'n' roll career as the lead singer and songwriter for the indie band the Del Fuegos, Dan Zanes hit upon what he gleefully calls "my calling" — creating wonderfully infectious music that families can enjoy together. Featuring hip, inventive renditions of American-roots standards and his own winsome folk-inspired tunes, Zanes' first family-music album, Rocket Ship Beach, was hailed a breakthrough in cool kids music and his three follow-up releases have added legions of kids, and kid sympathizers, to his devoted following. In concert with his spirited touring group, the Rocket Ship Revue, Zanes performs one of those "rare children's concerts where the grownups clearly had as much fun as their toddlers," says the Boston Herald.
