A passionate champion of early French Baroque music, acclaimed composer and choir master Hervé Niquet founded Le Concert Spirituel in 1988 expressly to explore and revive the Grand Motets of 17th-century France. A contemporary incarnation/revival of its famous 17th-century namesake, Niquet's modern-day ensemble has received France's highest musical honors, including a Diapason d'Or award, and is internationally recognized as one of the most authentic and talented interpreters of this lyrical repertoire. The group performs regularly to critical acclaim at such prestigious venues as the Opéra Comique in Paris, Festival of Old Music in Utrecht, Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music in London, and the Boston Early Music Festival, and its recording of Handel's organ concertos was hailed by Gramophone magazine as "exhilarating...if you want to know how these pieces would have sounded in Handel's time, then this is as close as you get."
