Quebec's 17-member troupe of skilled acrobats, aerialists, and athletic dancers returns to Zellerbach Hall where they've been an audience favorite since their Bay Area debut in 2001. A Canadian cousin in choreographed spectacle to Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize (pronounced "el-was") trades the usual big top for the theater stage, championing a new generation of character-driven circus art focused on innovative movement and imaginative storytelling. Its newest creation, Rain, is a joyful and nostalgic reverie inspired by the summers of youth and the storms of memory, laced with the theatricality and originality that have become the troupe's calling cards. "On our stage, not only rain will fall," says director Daniele Finzi Pasca. "Surprises will pour down as well."
