Widely regarded as one of the world's greatest laud (lute) players, Barbarito Torres was featured on the 1998 Grammy Award-winning Buena Vista Social Club album and subsequent hit film, as well as the Afro-Cuban All Stars recordings that together sparked a worldwide infatuation with the infectious rhythms of his native Cuba. A master of fluid melodies, Torres plays with a modern, elegant sophistication, yet remains dedicated to the island's traditional musica guajira, or the blues of the Cuban countryside. Celebrating the release of his self-titled album, Torres is touring with a nine-piece band, including soneros (singers), tres (guitar), horns, and percussion.
