Bill T. Jones' acclaimed ensemble returns to perform his trademark fusion of dance and theater in two West Coast premiere programs. Friday evening's As I was Saying... spotlights the powerful solo dancing of Bill T. Jones himself in an evening of text, dance, and music performed by Jones, musician/composer Daniel Bernard Roumain, and two other dancers. Saturday's Blind Date explores patriotism, honor, sacrifice, and service to a cause larger than oneself as the 10-member company performs in a sensory landscape of primary colors, video imagery, and musical influences from around the world. Originally intended to be a documentary of the ensemble today, Blind Date contains personal stories and is set to a score ranging from Bach to Otis Redding to the Mexican national anthem. Daniel Bernard Roumain, once again provides live music accompaniment, along with violinist Nurit Pacht.
