Audiences at the Metropolitan Opera witnessed something special in the 2004/05 seasonthe emergence of Matthew Polenzani as one of the most gifted lyric tenors of his generation. The 2004 Richard Tucker Award winner scored successes in three separate productions at the Met: as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and as the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier. Combine these accomplishments with important symphonic debuts at the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco and Chicago symphony orchestras and you have the makings of a truly exceptional vocal career. "An artist who makes a big impression as someone ready to make great contributions" (The Philadelphia Inquirer).
