On his weekly NPR program This American Life, Ira Glass has reinvented radio, finding drama, poignancy, and humor in everyday places. A favorite at Cal Performances (his last appearance sold out well in advance), Glass possesses "a distinctive literary imagination, an eccentric intelligence, and a sympathetic heart" (The New York Times). Following in the tradition of Art Spiegelman, Chris Ware's graphic comix novel Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth was an instant sensation and "arguably the greatest achievement of the form, ever" (The New York Times). As part of the event, Glass and Ware will talk about the art of telling stories through very different media in a discussion moderated by Orville Schell, Dean of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, followed by a question and answer session with the audience.
Presented in association with the Graduate School of Journalism.
