Renowned for his pioneering work bringing Indian music to the West, Ravi Shankar once inspired Yehudi Menuhin to comment "To me, his genius and his humanity can only be compared to that of Mozart's." Born in Varanasi, the holiest of Indian cities, Shankar spent several years in the West, absorbing different types of music. He returned to India in 1938 and embarked on his legendary seven decade (so far!) career. Shankar has concertized on the world's greatest stages, sharing his love of music and life with people from all countries. He returns to Cal Performances with his daughter and protégé, Anoushka.
