Youssou N'Dour
featuring Fathy Salama's Cairo Orchestra

Fri, Nov 11, '05, 8 pm

Venue: Zellerbach Hall B

Price: $30/$40/$50

Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour is perhaps the most appealing musician on the world music stage since Bob Marley, and his remarkable recordings have attracted legions of fans with their dazzling mix of traditional percussion, griot singing, and Afro-Cuban and indigenous dance rhythms. With 2004's Grammy Award-winning album Egypt, N'Dour's Senegalese melodies combine with Egyptian and Arab orchestral sounds in a lyrical celebration of Muslim mystical culture. "The result is a kind of Muslim soul music that venerates God and the distinct traditions that have existed for centuries in N'Dour's West African homeland" (San Francisco Chronicle).
