What do these symbols mean?
The remarkable English Concert returns under the direction of conductor and violinist Andrew Manze. Audiences throughout the world have responded brilliantly to the orchestra's new artistic director (only its second, following Trevor Pinnock), whose distinctive blend of informality and serious musical purpose breathes new life into well-known masterpieces and rarely heard repertoire. For this program, celebrating the Mozart anniversary, conductor Manze also reveals his virtuosity as a soloist in two of Mozart's most sublime compositions. "The English Concert and its leader do indeed appear to be under a magic spell . . . playing with the kind of panache that makes your spirits sing" (The Times, London).
Program: C.P.E. Bach/Symphony No. 3 in F Major; Mozart/Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, K. 216; Mozart/Adagio in E Major for Violin and Orchestra, K. 261; Mozart/Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 550
