For nearly a decade, exceptional young singers from all over the world—pegged as the stars of tomorrow—have flocked to St. Petersburg, combining an intensive musical education with performances on the famous stage of Russia's legendary Mariinsky Theatre. The high standards of these soloists and their worldwide recognition results from intense and painstaking work not only by the students themselves, but also by the entire Academy staff. For this performance, two outstanding young artists—soprano Viktoria Yastrebova and bass Alexei Markov—join Academy artistic director Larissa Gergieva (one of the world's most accomplished vocal accompanists) for a program of Russian lieder.
