Cal Performances and Putumayo World Music present an epic musical journey featuring three of Africa's most accomplished performers. Habib Koité, from Mali, is a superstar in his own country as well as an international sensation. "His reputation as a guitar player has become almost mythical," says the New York Times. Vusi Mahlasela, from South Africa, commands an "instantly affecting" (Billboard) voice that has promoted hope and love while attacking hate and segregation in his apartheid-ravaged homeland and was featured on the soundtrack to the Academy Award-winning foreign film Tsotsi. They are joined by newcomer Dobet Gnahoré, from the Ivory Coast, whose music reflects a variety of influences, including Mandingo music, Congolese rumba, ziglibiti from the Ivory Coast, and Cameroonian bikutsi. The Acoustic Africa tour marks her long-awaited U.S. debut.
