Truly in a class by himself, Bobby McFerrin is one of the natural wonders of the music world—perhaps our best-known vocal innovator and improviser, a renowned classical conductor, and the creator of one of the most popular songs of recent times. McFerrin has won 10 Grammys and collaborated with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, and the Vienna Philharmonic, becoming a vital ambassador of both the classical and jazz worlds. But his greatest gift to his audience, according to the New York Times, is converting them "from spectators into celebrants and transforming a concert hall into a playground, a village center, a joyous space." He appears at Cal Performances with his acclaimed improvisational vocal orchestra, Voicestra.
