Longtime Cal Performances favorites (their concerts routinely sell out well in advance), the seven women of Sweet Honey in the Rock celebrate the sacred music of the African American churchspirituals, hymns, gospelas well as jazz, rap, reggae, doo-wop, and blues. It's an experience like no other when these powerful voices combine to create a blend of lyrics, movement, and narrative that challenges injustice, encourages activism, and honors love. The singers, whose words are simultaneously interpreted in uniquely expressive American Sign Language, have inspired audiences for more than 30 years with their righteous call for a more just and humane world.
