Cuarteto Latinoamericano
David Tanenbaum, guitar
Sonia Rubinsky, piano
In recent seasons, UC Berkeley professor and distinguished composer Jorge Liderman has made many memorable contributions to Cal Performances' programs, providing works noted for their "rhythmic vitality, melodic tenderness, and infectious sense of humor" (San Francisco Chronicle). A major force in contemporary music, he has been championed and commissioned by an impressive array of international ensembles and performers. To honor this remarkable artist on his 50th birthday, Cal Performances brings together some of Liderman's favorite collaborators, including Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the award-winning leading proponent of Latin American music for string quartet; David Tanenbaum ("one of the rare, highly distinguished masters of the classical guitar," says the Frankfurter Rundschau); and Sonia Rubinsky, a virtuoso Brazilian pianist who combines profound musical commitment with an exciting and refined technique.
