Taylor Eigsti Trio

0

Cal Performances welcomes one of the freshest new talents on the jazz scene. Two-time Grammy nominee Taylor Eigsti, a brilliant pianist/composer/bandleader, has been around since he was a preteen in Menlo Park, performing with such legends as Dave Brubeck and James Moody. Now in his early 20s, Eigsti has won the full-fledged exposure he deserves with his debut on Concord Records, Lucky to Be Me ("a mature, fiery, and surprising set by a talent who is still getting started while arriving fully formed as an artist," says iTunes). Eigsti's music is rooted in jazz history but also incorporates the progressive sounds of the 21st century, offering a compelling rhythmic mix that encompasses funk, hip-hop, free feels, and swing.

Special Engagements:
On August 24, 2007, Cal Performances co-hosts the 4th annual San Francisco Fashion Week's events. The evening begins with a reception and fashion show in the Galleria at the San Francisco Design Center at 7:00 p.m. that includes a special appearance on the runway by Cal Performances' guest artist, Taylor Eigsti. At the Westfield San Francisco Centre party immediately following the fashion show, Eigsti will demonstrate his own formidable style of "improvisational, funky melodies" (San Francisco magazine) when he performs a solo set of his music.

Cal Performances will also present an exhibit of work from one of the most imaginative collaborations involving a couturier and a performing artist: Isaac Mizrahi's "dizzy, delightful costumes" (The New York Times) for choreographer Mark Morris's productions. The most memorable partnerships include Morris's productions of Rameau's Platée and Purcell's King Arthur. Costumes from these productions, among others, will be on display at the San Francisco Design Center for one night only. The 1998 American premiere of Platée and the 2006 West Coast premiere of King Arthur were presented by Cal Performances, as were numerous other Morris-Mizrahi productions.

Cal Peformances' Trustee Maris Meyerson is the Honorary Chair for Cal Performances' events at San Francisco Fashion Week.
