It began as a brave display of musical sovereignty against the East German socialist regime, and now, 20 years later, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin stands tall as one of Europe's greatest period-instrument ensembles. Entering the limelight after German reunification in 1990, the group has received numerous honors, including the Cannes Festival Award, the French Diapason d'Or, the British Gramophone Award, and the Telemann Prize. Two years ago, the Akademie made its debut U.S. tour (including a thrilling appearance at Cal Performances) to exuberant critical acclaim and sold-out houses. "The performances are stylish and expressive, as well as pyrotechnically breathtaking" (The Daily Telegraph, London).
Program: Vivaldi/Concerto for Strings in G Minor; Erlebach/Overture; Graun/Concerto for Viola (gamba); Marcello/Concerto for Oboe (with ornaments by J.S. Bach); Bach/Violin Concerto in D Minor
