Howard Watkins, piano
Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, a riveting new superstar in the making, has captured the attention of opera fans far and wide for his striking voice, incisive musicianship, and dynamic stage presence. He has already brought crowds to their feet at the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Vienna State Opera, and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and his upcoming San Francisco Opera performances as Mozart's serial seducer Don Giovanni (summer 2007) are among the most keenly anticipated of recent seasons. Kwiecien's musical imagination and finely honed communicative skills signal the presence of an ideal recitalist. "A baritone who commands the stage so completely that he seems to suck up all the oxygen," says the Seattle Times.
