Having seduced audiences worldwide with her amazing singing and charismatic stage presence, Mariza Reis Nunes stands today as the undisputed princess of fado, the evocative Portuguese blues music that emerged from the brothels and taverns of Lisbon about 200 years ago. The Mozambique-born vocalist has spent much of her life living in the heart of fado culture, Lisbon's picturesque Mouraria district, and many today consider her the rightful heir to legendary fadista Amália Rodrigues. A resounding hit at Cal Performances in 2005, Mariza is internationally renowned for her "impossibly full, golden voice, capable of conveying a multitude of emotions within a range that any self-respecting diva or torch singer would kill for" (The Guardian, London).
