The Global Drum Project Tour reunites Grateful Dead percussionist Mickey Hart with his longtime friend and collaborator tabla master Zakir Hussain—along with talking-drum ace Sikiru Adepoju and the formidable conguero Giovanni Hidalgo—in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the ground-breaking album and tour. "It had long been a dream of mine to bring together great drummers from around the world to make a recording based entirely on percussion," says Hart. The resulting CD won the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in the first year of that category's existence, as well as numerous other critic and audience polls. Today, it remains a true benchmark of world music in general and percussion virtuosity in particular.
