Kronos Quartet's innovative Under 30 Project was created in 2003, the ensemble's 30th anniversary year, to support the creation of new work by young artists and to help Kronos cultivate lasting relationships with the next creative generation. As part of this remarkable program, the group will perform the West Coast premiere (co-commissioned by Cal Performances) of Widows and Lovers, a thrilling new piece by Israeli composer Aviya Kopelman. One of today's most celebrated and influential quartets, Kronos has always set the standard by pursuing its singular artistic vision, collaborating with the world's most eclectic composers and performers and releasing more than 40 recordings of extraordinary breadth and creativity.
Program: Aviya Kopelman/Widows and Lovers; Kaija Saariaho/Nymphéa; Hanna Kulenty/String Quartet No. 4 (A Cradle Song) (West Coast premiere); Aleksandra Vrebalov/...hold me, neighbor, in this storm...
