Three jazz icons combine their talents for an unforgettable evening of modern jazz. Pianist Chick Corea's four-decade career is the stuff of legend; his playing exhibits "plenty of sparks and intensity and never sacrifices its sense of adventure and complete commitment" (All About Jazz). John McLaughlin has been a major influence on today's top jazz/fusion guitarists, and his classic recordings remain essential listening for anyone with even a casual interest in modern jazz. Grammy winner Christian McBride, chameleonic virtuoso of the acoustic and electric bass, displays a flair for improvisation that makes him one of the most exciting musicians in the business.

Jazz radio host and Latin music specialist Jesse "Chuy" Varela leads a series of lectures to complement performances by Ballet Flamenco José Porcel (Dec 5); Noche Flamenca (Jan 23); Afro-Cuban All Stars (Feb 25); and Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, and Christian McBride (Mar 21). With extensive background information, guest interviews, and musical illustration, these lively talks take place at 5-6:30 pm in the Zellerbach Hall Lobby Mezzanine prior to the performances.
