A towering figure on the international music scene, Jordi Savall is "a man worth celebrating...not only a performer of genius but also a conductor, a scholar, a teacher, a concert impresario, a record-label director, and the patriarch of a formidable musical family" (The New Yorker). For more than 30 years, he has devoted himself to the rediscovery of neglected musical treasures, single-handedly restoring an essential repertoire to all those with ears to hear it. Savall returns to Berkeley with his esteemed Le Concert des Nations ensemble for two special instrumental programs, one centering on Shakespeare's words and music for his productions, featuring spoken excerpts from the Bard's immortal works.
Program (Feb 27): Music by Lully, Biber, Avison, Corelli, D. Scarlatti, de Hita, Boccherini
Program (Feb 28): The Stage Music in the Plays of William Shakespeare, featuring music by Johnson, Locke, and Purcell (instrumental music from The Fairy Queen)
