Julia Fischer, violin & leader
Celebrate the 50th anniversary U.S. tour of "a beacon of musical excellence" (The Times, London). Since leading the Baroque music revival of the 1960s, this beloved London institution has produced definitive performances of the great classical masterworks in ways that make the music seem new again. Its upcoming Berkeley program celebrates the group's history with two Bach concertos and spotlights the Academy's longstanding commitment to English music with works by Britten and Walton. Julia Fischer, Gramophone's 2007 Artist of the Year, enjoys a close relationship with the musicians and has already completed several international tours with the group.
Program: Britten/Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Op. 10; Bach/Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, and Violin Concerto No. 2 in E Major; Walton/Sonata for Strings
