Habib Koité & Bamada

Mali's greatest pop star and his band perform a program featuring music from their stunning new album Afriki. The West African wonder descends from a line of griots, traditional storytellers whose charisma and magnetism translate across cultures and borders. He takes a unique musical approach, drawing on a wide range of cultural expressions from the diverse regions of his homeland. Ranking in the upper echelon of world music artists, Koite famously integrates Western folk and rock sounds into his music, without compromising his cherished Malian roots. "His reputation as a guitar player has become almost mythical" (The New York Times).
