Founded in Madrid in 1993 by director Martín Santangelo and his wife Soledad Barrio, Noche Flamenca celebrates the essence, purity, and integrity of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms. The company has been hailed internationally for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances and is recognized as the most authentic flamenco touring ensemble in the field today. Lead dancer Barrio has won awards from over a dozen countries for excellence in dance and is considered one of the greatest performers of our time. 	Education/Community Events Latin Music Series Jan 23, 5-6:30 pm Zellerbach Hall Lobby Mezzanine Jazz radio host and Latin music specialist Jesse "Chuy" Varela leads a series of lectures to complement performances by Ballet Flamenco José Porcel (Dec 5); Noche Flamenca (Jan 23); Afro-Cuban All Stars (Feb 25); and Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, and Christian McBride (Mar 21). With extensive background information, guest interviews, and musical illustration, these lively talks take place at 5-6:30 pm in the Zellerbach Hall Lobby Mezzanine prior to the performances.
