Wayne Shorter Quartet
Featuring Brian Blade, John Patitucci,
Danilo Perez

More than half a century after embarking on his musical journey, saxophone master Wayne Shorter is regarded as one of today's titans of jazz. His formidable body of work as a composer for such illustrious groups as Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis' famous mid-60s quintet, and fusion supergroup Weather Report is enough to guarantee him a place in the Jazz Hall of Fame. Shorter's Grammy Award-winning quartet—"one of the most charismatic and influential jazz groups on the planet" (The Guardian, London)—features jazz greats Danilo Perez on piano, John Patitucci on bass, and Brian Blade on drums. One night only!

Key Notes Series: Jazz & World Music
Sat, Oct 17, 5-6:15 pm
Zellerbach Hall Lobby Mezzanine

Fans of great jazz Wayne Shorter proudly call themselves "Wayneheads." Like fans of the Grateful Dead and other iconic musicians and bands, Wayne's followers collect and share music by this transcendent saxophonist and composer. With the Quartet's Danilo Perez and the Jazzschool's Mike Zilber, Key Notes host Chuy Varela explores Shorter's contributions to the jazz landscape from his work with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis to Weather Report and his own Grammy award-winning Quartet. While Key Notes lectures are free and open to the public, tickets must be purchased for the associated concerts. For a listing of all Education and Community events, please see our 2009/10 Calendar
